Hey All,
I am new to Oppo but I have been lurking in the shadows for about a year. For my first post I want to tell you about the walmart near my work. It is full of snowbirds. They can’t drive and they definitely cannot park. I have below Exhibit A and B... They can’t even be bothered to use parallel spaces properly.
yes, this is a daily occurrence...

For too long the 1% has been able to park wherever they want!

Well there’s your problem right there. It’s Walmart.
But to be fair, I expect handicapped drivers to not be so good at parking, so they get a pass most of the time from me.

I hardly ever see cars correctly parked in handicap spaces. Even my mum just slides her SUV roughly into the space and doesn’t bother to straighten out or anything, sometimes taking up more than one space.
One time, she did it when I was with them...when we came back, there was a very pissed woman who couldn’t get out of her chair van because my mum parked in such a way that left it impossible for the ramp to come down.
It’s like, I know dad has cancer, but mum is still able bodied, so there is no excuse for parking that pitiful.

I can’t seem to think of any handicap that hinders one’s ability to park a car. At least, not one where the person would still be able to drive.
For example, if you’re wearing a neck brace or something that prevents you from checking your blind spot, you probably shouldn’t be driving at all.

I see a different problem at my local Walmart. People park in the blue crossed-out areas. Usually, they have handicap placards, though.
But really, what kind of design is this, anyway?

Isn’t that kind of a bad ‘pass’ to give though? If they’re bad at parking, wouldn’t they be bad at driving, too? I don’t want them zipping past me at 60mph separated by a pair of narrow yellow lines.
Everybody needs the same rigorous standard.

I think part of the problem is that the parallel handicap spots are still in the minority at most Walmarts. These both appear to be AZ tags, so I assume they’re not snowbirds (unless the pilgrimage from Flagstaff to Phoenix is now a thing...)

I’ve been behind too many cars that are driving like they aren’t paying attention and are all over the place. About half the time they have handicap plates. It’s not a license to drive and park like jerks, but they must like to think so from what I have seen.

Yeah they are still a minority around here as well, today they were all AZ plates, but that is not always the case...
